WIF in the Community

Helping those in need comes naturally to women! Therefore, Women in Finance is proud to support Multiple Sclerosis Society of Queensland. The net proceeds from events in 2008 will be donated to this worthy cause.

Multiple Sclerosis Society of Queensland has been endevouring to since its establishment in 1957 to continually promote research to cure Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and provide equitable, high quality specialised services for the benefit of people with MS.

There is an estimated 2,500,000 people in the world have the disease MS. The National Health Survey of 2001 indicated that there are approximately 15,000 Australians with MS.

Fundraising and increasing awareness of people living with Multiple Sclerosis are critical in enabling the Society to continue to provide support and services to people with MS, and continue to fund research to hopefully find the cause and a cure for this mystery disease.

As yet there is no cure for MS. However, advances in treating and understanding MS are achieved daily and research to find a cure is very encouraging. Many therapeutic and technological advances are helping people lead more productive lives. There are now approved medications that have actually been shown to affect the underlying disease course.
